The art of photography is all about directing the attention of the viewer. — Steven Pinker
Yesterday I was digging through some archived writings and found an artist statement that I wrote in 2007 for the Collective Memories series of photographs. What really stood out to me is that regardless of the imagery or technique I am using, the memories and the feeling I am hoping to evoke have remained the same. The artist statement written 7 years ago could be written about any artwork I have ever made. It is a nice reminder of what is at the core of my work. Continue reading »

A big thank you to everyone that donated to Colectivo Tan 473 in the month of February. We doubled our giving from the last month, and together we were able to impact the lives of lots of children in Guanajuato.
From Katie Clancy, who runs the Colectivo, “Thanks so much for this support from all of you art lovers and creators!”
If you would like to continue to follow what these beautiful children are up to, you can see regular updates on their Facebook page.
And once again, congratulations Bruce on the addition of the new artwork to your collection, and in addition to your donation thank you for all that you do to support the performing arts in Kansas City!
I will be announcing our next Be Nice & Do Good partner organization in the next couple of weeks so check back soon!
“… the wind sprang up afresh, with a kind of bitter song, as if it said: “This is reality, whether you like it or not. All those frivolities of summer, the light and shadow, the living mask of green that trembled over everything, they were lies, and this is what was underneath. This is the truth.” It was as if we were being punished for loving the loveliness of summer. ” ― Willa Cather, My Ántonia

We have a complicated relationship with winter around here.
I know it’s still cold outside and we are expecting snow AGAIN this weekend, but here at Dahlquist Studio Land our winter is officially over and we are working our fingers to the bone eager to get this show on the road. The time of woodshedding and hibernation is over. It is time for us to buckle in, knuckle down, put our hand to the plow, make the final push, wrap up the details, and complete all those things that keep getting pushed to the bottom of the list!
So after a serious how the Hell are we going to get this all done? strategizing session this morning, we have some dates you don’t want to miss! Continue reading »
